The GRE General Test is taken by prospective graduate school applicants and measures Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Critical Thinking and Analytical Writing Skills. GRE test scores are used by a school’s admissions office to supplement undergraduate records and other qualifications for graduate study.

About The Test
The test is computer-based and is broken down into three (3) content sections:
• Verbal Reasoning
• Quantitative Reasoning
• Analytical WritingIn addition to these three sections there will be one (1) unidentified, unscored section and/or one (1) unidentified, unscored research section. These sections are used to test questions and content for future versions of the GRE.

GRE Format

The test includes six sections and will take up to three hours to complete:
• Section 1: Analytical Writing – Issue Task – 45 minutes
• Section 2: Analytical Writing – Argument Task – 30 minutes
• Section 3: Verbal Reasoning – 30 Multiple Choice Questions – 30 minutes
• Section 4: Quantitative Reasoning – 28 Multiple Choice Questions – 45 minutes
• Sections 5 and 6: Unscored and Research Sections – Various timesTwo of the six sections will be unidentified and unscored as indicated above. However, you must complete the sections, although the score you receive on those sections will not impact your overall test grade. The sections are used to test new questions for future versions of the GRE.
